Literacy

St Alipius offers a wide range of engaging literacy experiences that support students in developing essential life skills in reading, writing, spelling, speaking and listening. Staff plan for effective teaching and learning experiences that systematically and explicitly guide students to access key literacy skills while also allowing them to connect to the world around them.

At St Aliplius, we strive to ensure all literacy learning experiences have a clear purpose and direction and that students have a solid understanding of the expectations and next steps in learning.  Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning by creating their own personalised learning goals and are encouraged to apply critical and creative thinking skills to make meaningful connections.

We use pragmatic assessment tools to continually monitor student progress and ensure teaching and learning opportunities address every student at their point of need. This means all students are continually challenged to achieve success and growth. Students are supported in explicit whole-group instruction and skill-focused small groups to ensure effective differentiation and consolidation of learning. Crucial literacy skills are embedded across all learning areas so students can integrate and apply learning in real-life situations.

At St Alipius, we pride ourselves on our high expectations and the impact this has on positive literacy outcomes for all.
